Kevin McCarthy removed as Speaker of the House after fringe Republicans rebel

A fringe group of conservatives on Tuesday successfully removed Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) as Speaker of the House.

After a vote of 216-210, the Speaker's chair was declared vacant. Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) sponsored the resolution to remove McCarthy.

It was unclear who the Republican majority would nominate as the next Speaker.
