Megyn Kelly slams Trump for provoking 'threats and vitriol' against federal judge

Fox News host Megyn Kelly ripped Donald Trump on Thursday for his latest accusations of bias against US District Judge Gonzalo Curiel, arguing that they are not only unfounded, but potentially dangerous.

"When he does this, I guarantee you right now that this judge is getting threats and vitriol and who knows what else," Kelly told guest Bill Bennett.

As the Wall Street Journal reported, Trump claimed that Curiel, who is presiding over civil lawsuits accusing the Republican presidential candidate's for-profit university, has "an absolute conflict" because he is "of Mexican heritage."

Curiel, who was appointed by President Barack Obama, was born in Indiana to a Mexican immigrant couple, which Trump says creates a conflict of interest because of his campaign promise to make Mexico pay for a wall between the two nations.

Kelly noted that Trump has also called for an investigation into Curiel because he has ruled against the real estate mogul, which she said forced her to discuss that instead of his endorsement by House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI).

"Trump continues to attack a sitting federal judge -- who by the way, did a lot to fight the drug cartels when he was a prosecutor -- based on his ethnicity," she said. "Suggesting he has an inherent conflict of interest because of his heritage. 'A Hispanic cannot judge a case against me.' That is what Trump is saying."
