Manhattan DA seeks Melania Trump emails in hush money case

Between special counsel Jack Smith's 37-count federal prosecution for the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg Jr.'s 34-count prosecution for New York State, former President Donald Trump is facing 71 felony counts. And his efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election results are the focus of two separate criminal investigations: one by Smith and DOJ, the other by Fulton County, Georgia DA Fani Willis.

According to Associated Press reporter Michael R. Sisak, the Manhattan DA's Office is seeking "e-mails exchanged among Trump Organization employees and the White House" as well as "e-mails between Trump's wife, Melania, and Rhona Graff, a longtime company executive."

Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, former senior adviser to Melania Trump and author of the 2020 book "Melania and Me: The Rise and Fall of My Friendship With the First Lady," responded to AP's reporting on Twitter Monday night.

Wolkoff tweeted, "Melania Trump used several email addresses, texts, and Signal to communicate with me and others while working in the White House and prosecutors want to see them."

Sherrilyn Ifill, former President of the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, saw Wolkoff's tweet and posted, "Uh-oh."

At issue in Bragg's case are alleged hush money payments to adult film star Stormy Daniels in 2016. Bragg alleges that Trump falsified the Trump Organization's business records.

According to Michael Cohen —Trump's former personal attorney and fixer and a witness in Bragg's case — and Daniels, Trump had an extramarital affair with Daniels and paid her hush money to keep quiet. Trump has been trying to get Bragg's case moved to federal court, while Bragg is fighting that effort and is arguing that the case needs to remain in New York State.
