Melania Trump forced Easter Bunny to strip naked because she didn't like his plaid vest: book

First lady Melania Trump is known for her keen eye to fashion and high demand for matching stilettos, but that standard apparently also extended to the Easter Bunny.

Early in the new tell-all book by Stephanie Grisham, the former chief of staff to the first lady recalled a scene at the annual Easter Egg Roll in which Mrs. Trump found the wardrobe of the bunny objectionable.

Grisham says that to her credit she didn't much care about the bank of cameras or the crowd and focused on making the event a positive experience for the children.

"In her mind, standing in line forever was not fun for anyone involved—and it turned out she was right. Paying attention to every single detail, she even scrutinized the Easter bunny," wrote Grisham. "Just as the guy in the costume was about to go onto the balcony to wave to the kids, a frown crossed the first lady's face. 'I don't like what he is wearing,' she said, eyeing the plaid vest the bunny had on. She felt it was tacky and distracting. Then and there, only minutes before he was to hop out onto the White House lawn, Melania Trump made the Easter bunny strip."

As one person on Twitter noted in 2020, over the decades, the Easter Bunny has dealt with several wardrobe changes. By the end of the Obama administration, the bunny was naked again. When Trump came into power, the bunny wore a red or blue vest until the first lady noticed it and decided it wasn't believable. The White House also boasts a female Easter Bunny costume that is typically clad in a purple dress after wearing a yellow gingham dress during the George H.W. Bush administration.
