The Miami Heat have weighed in to slam former President Donald Trump and Sen. J.D. Vance's (R-OH) false claims about Haitian immigrants.
In a statement posted on its Twitter account, the Heat said that its staff "like Miami itself, is a diverse and brilliant mix of vibrant cultures, including many members of our Haitian community."
The team went on to say that "the false narrative surrounding them is hurtful and offensive and has sadly made many innocent people targets of hateful speech and physical threats."
The team's message concluded by stating that "our Haitian employees, fans and friends deserve better."
Trump and Vance have been on the warpath against Haitian immigrants for the last week after Trump falsely claimed that Haitians in Springfield, Ohio were kidnapping and eating local residents' pets.

The spotlight put on Springfield has led to the city being hit with a number of violent threats that have forced the city to temporarily close its city hall and multiple elementary schools.
During an interview on CNN Sunday, Vance acknowledged that claims about widespread pet eating by Haitian immigrants were false but added that he felt it was necessary to "create stories" just to get the media to pay attention to the impacts of immigration on American communities.
