Michael Avenatti explains to MSNBC's Maddow why Kavanaugh friend Mark Judge needs to go before Senate amid gang-rape allegation

In an interview with MSNBC's Rachel Maddow, attorney Michael Avenatti revealed the graphic sexual assault accusations against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh and his friend Mark Judge.

Prior to the interview, Maddow read a list of questions Avenatti drafted for witnesses of an alleged gang-rape facilitated by Kavanaugh and his friend Mark Judge.

In the interview, the attorney noted that he is focusing on a "series" of incidents involving Kavanaugh. The nominee's behavior with Judge, he added, is "absolutely disqualifying."

"We have demanded that Mark Judge be subpoenaed to testify before the committee in public so that the American people can hearMark Judge answer questions about his close friend Brett Kavanaugh," Avenatti told Maddow. "So far, those requests have fallen on deaf ears."

"For some reason, [Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley] and others do not want the American people to hear from Mark Judge," he added. "For some reason, Brett Kavanaugh does not want the American people to hear from his close friend Mark Judge, and I think that should tell people everything they need to know about Mark Judge and what he may say."

Maddow noted that Judge is not being nominated for public office, which Avenatti conceded is true before insisting that his behavior is relevant because he and Kavanaugh were "joined at the hip for an extended period of time during the years at issue."

"We believe Mark Judge's testimony is critical," he said. "Admittedly, the committee is not designed to hear from all of these witnesses over the lengthy period of time that it will take to get to the bottom of this —that's why they should use the FBI to properly investigate this."
