'Pathetic': Ex-RNC chair blasts Trump over his latest 'dangerous spreading of lies'

A former chairman of the Republican National Committee shredded former President Donald Trump on Wednesday evening for his "pathetic and dangerous spreading of lies and disinformation" about hurricane relief efforts.

Trump has made several false claims and spread misinformation about hurricane relief efforts in recent days in the aftermath of the devastating Hurricane Helene. Among them: Peddling a misleading claim that the federal government is only providing $750 to victims who lost their homes and falsely stating there were "no helicopters, no rescue" efforts in North Carolina.

Trump also falsely claimed Biden ignored calls from Georgia’s governor.

Conservative Michael Steele took to X on Wednesday to attack the MAGA leader over the falsehoods.

"We need to stop; and we need to stop now the pathetic and dangerous spreading of lies and disinformation by @realDonaldTrump and his sycophants about the relief effort to help our fellow Americans," he said.

Americans are watching in "real time" the devastation left by the storms, he said, and people are "hearing directly from local, state and federal officials what they are doing and the resources they are putting into service to help people."

"They cannot be clear enough that the lies and misinformation are impacting their ability to provide help and save lives," he said. "So why are we allowing Trump to do exactly what he did during Covid: politicize and delegitimize what we must do to save those lives and protect each other—wearing a mask should not have been politicized then; and heeding the warnings of officials during a hurricane and the delivery of relief assets should not be politicized now."

Steele added: "At what point will WE all come together and say ENOUGH? Quite, frankly, I’m tired of his s---."
