The White House has already accepted a midterm loss for Republicans as if it were “all but written in the stars,” Zeteo reported Tuesday, and according to several Trump administration officials and insiders, has also hatched a plan to obstruct Democratic inquiries into President Donald Trump.
“We will epically stonewall them on everything we can,” a White House official told Zeteo, speaking on the condition of anonymity. “Everyone is on the same page on this.”
House Democrats have already crafted a plan to “hold Trump to account” involving a flurry of subpoenas and probes to uncover details on the administration’s handling of the release of Jeffrey Epstein-related files, its deeply unpopular war against Iran, the president’s own private business dealings, and the short-lived Department of Government Efficiency.
The White House appears to be acutely aware of what could be an impending “onslaught of oversight and accountability,” Zeteo’s Asawin Suebsaeng writes, and has preemptively hatched a plan of its own.
“The White House is secretly planning as if a Democratic-led House in 2027 is all but written in the stars. According to sources in and close to the White House, senior Trump officials have started crafting a sprawling legal strategy dedicated to resisting House subpoenas for documents or testimony, involving constantly invoking executive privilege, and defying much, if not most, congressional oversight next year and 2028,” Suebsaeng wrote.
“It is set to be the kind of stonewalling conducted by the first Trump White House starting in 2019 – on a cocktail of steroids. Who could blame them, when it looks like the new Trump administration has a mountain of crimes to cover up? (And we’re not even counting the crimes that theyknoware crimes.)”
As recently as Monday, the Justice Department released a legal opinion that the president can invoke executive privilege for communications with outside advisers, so long as it relates to “official presidential decisionmaking,” a potential roadblock to Democratic efforts to investigate Trump. While the opinion could face legal challenges, the White House appears ready to use every tool at its disposal – and then some – to obstruct Democrats should they retake control of Congress.
“When you have a federal government that is so accustomed to constantlydefying the courts, what’s a little more defiance of Congress?” Suebsaeng wrote.
