Mike Flynn’s son complains Trump fired his dad before he could ‘improve relations with Russia’

President Donald Trump on Wednesday morning called out Russia over its support for Syria before backtracking slightly and seeming to offer an olive branch of wanting better a better relationship with Russia.

"Our relationship with Russia is worse now than it has ever been, and that includes the Cold War," Trump wrote. "There is no reason for this. Russia needs us to help with their economy, something that would be very easy to do, and we need all nations to work together. Stop the arms race?"

In response to this tweet, Michael Flynn Jr., the son of disgraced former Trump national security adviser Michael Flynn, reminded the president that his father shared the president's vision for a stronger relationship with Russia -- and hinted that he could have made it happened had Trump not fired him.

"I know a former national security adviser who actually wanted to improve relations with Russia," Flynn Jr. wrote. "You know, work together to fight ISIS..."

Months after being fired by Trump for lying about the nature of his discussions with Russian officials, Flynn pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about his talks with the Russians. He is now a cooperating witness in special counsel Robert Mueller's probe into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.
