House GOP chooses a fourth speaker nominee in effort to break chaos

House Republicans took a vote to have Rep. Mike Johnson (R-LA) become the next speaker of the House of Representatives after multiple candidates tried and failed to secure the job.

Johnson, who serves as vice chair of the House Republican Conference, was showered with praise by the president of the conference Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY).

"Congratulations Speaker-designate @RepMikeJohnson!," she tweeted Tuesday night.

Johnson managed to outperform votes amongst his GOP party in a third ballot following two rounds of voting.

The specter of formally filling the vacancy of speaker has caused the House to remain in stagnation while the world reels in dealing with upheaval in the Middle East, budgetary crisis threatening another government shutdown, and dealing with the Southern Border.

The House ousted Kevin McCarthy earlier this month and has been unable to replace him.

Candidates such as Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA), Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) and most recently Rep. Tom Emmer (R-MN) all were primed to become the next speaker until their candidacy couldn't reach 217 votes to make it official or simply fizzled.
