Pro-MAGA Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) joined the attacks on Coca-Cola after fringe conservatives claimed that the soft drink company was in a war with Jesus because a glitch did not allow a custom Christian message on cans.
The Utah Republican posted twice this week as Coca-Cola responded to a software problem with its personalized cans. Lee demanded to know why corporate "technical issues" always seem to target conservatives.
A Fox Business investigation found the tool had blocked "Jesus is Lord" and other Christian phrases while allowing left-wing slogans and far-right group names to pass through the same filter, the outlet reported.
"Dumb move, Coke," Lee wrote on X. "Jesus will win over Coca Cola / Every single time."
"Why is it that these 'technical issues' from corporate always seem to target religious people and conservatives?" Lee wrote in a second post.
The Fox Business investigation found the tool's filters were inconsistent across political and religious categories, the outlet reported.
The filter blocked mainstream Christian phrases like "Jesus is Lord," "Holy Trinity" and "Virgin Mary," as well as the slogan "Make America Great," the Fox Business report said.
But it allowed "Defund the Police," "Proud Boys" and — as of last Friday — even "Pedophile Pride," according to the report.
"…We are aware of a technical issue affecting the personalization preview tool and are working to address it," a company spokesperson told Fox News Digital. "While we review and take corrective action, we have disabled the preview feature and paused new personalized product orders."
The response did not stop the backlash from spreading across social media, with several prominent right-wing voices piling on.
"Once again Coca Cola shows you who they really are," right-wing media personality Lara Logan wrote on X.
"Can you believe the MUSLIMS made Coca-Cola ban these ADL-designated antisemitic phrases? We all know that Muslims don't revere Jesus as a prophet or anything, this was definitely Muslims," InfoWars host Harrison H. Smith wrote on X, offering no evidence for the claim.
It was not the first time right-wing figures have targeted Coca-Cola over a culture-war grievance, according to Snopes.
In 2021, screenshots spread online claiming Coca-Cola had required employees to complete diversity training telling them to "try to be less white," Snopes reported.
Coca-Cola told Snopes the course was "not part of the company's curriculum."
