Donald Trump shared a conspiracy theory posted by Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) about the Jan. 6 insurrection Monday.
The Utah Republican, who participated in discussions about Trump remaining in office despite losing the 2020 election, called for an investigation of the House Jan. 6 committee after security footage from inside the U.S. Capitol was released showing police allowing some rioters into the building.
“Why didn’t Liz Cheney and [Adam Kinzinger] ever refer to any of these tapes?” Lee asked on his X account.
More than 1,000 individuals have been charged with crimes related to the riot, including more than 400 who have been charged with assaulting police officers. Trump shared Lee's response to former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-MT), who had been the ranking Republican on that investigative panel, on his Truth Social platform.

"Liz, we’ve seen footage like that a million times," Lee replied. "You made sure we saw that — and nothing else. It’s the other stuff — what you deliberately hid from us — that we find so upsetting. Nice try.”
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) on Friday began releasing 40,000 hours of security camera footage from the Capitol riots, which Republicans have said undermine the narrative about the attack, and Lee suggested the evidence shows the violence was provoked by federal agents, although the example he cited was proven wrong.
