Misogynist group tries to divert anti-domestic violence donations to its own hateful cause

The misogynist hate group A Voice for Men created a website designed to dupe visitors into donating to their cause, ThinkProgress' Tara Culp-Ressler reports.

The White Ribbon Campaign was founded after the "Montreal Massacre," in which Marc Lépine entered the École Polytechnique shouting "You're all a bunch of feminists, and I hate feminists!" before shooting and killing 14 female students.

The nonprofit Canadian group "positively engages men, young men and boys through relevant educational programming that challenges language and behaviors, as well as harmful ideas of manhood that lead to violence against women."

A Voice for Men purchased the domain www.whiteribbon.org and launched a site that urges those who land on it not to be fooled by the "numerous attempts by other entities to corrupt the message of the White Ribbon Initiative by inserting dishonest and sexist messages into this movement."

The PayPal button on the White Ribbon Campaign's site leads to the donation page of A Voice for Men.

The founder of A Voice for Men, Paul Elam, wrote a message to media outlets who would call his organization out for hijacking the Canadian group's identity.

"Go right straight to Hell, you gang of bigoted, lying scumbags. That is, if Hell will even have you pieces of shit."

"One, White Ribbon Campaign is not trademarked by anyone. Deal with it," he continued. "Two, [A Voice for Men] legitimately owns and operates WhiteRibbon.org. It is our property. Deal with it."
