Senate Republicans served warning that donors are furious with McConnell: report

According to a report from Axios, Sen, Rick Scott (R-FL) delivered bad news to his colleagues in a closed-door meeting this week telling them that Republican party donors are extremely unhappy with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) -- and that could have an impact on funding for the upcoming 2022 midterm election.

Scott, who chairs the National Republican Senatorial Committee, is responsible for bringing in donations which are then doled out to GOP senate candidates.

According to Axios' Alayna Treene, Scott was at a donor retreat when House passed the historic $1.2 infrastructure package with the help of Republican votes and donors proceeded to take out their anger on McConnell because 19 Republicans in the Senate also voted for it.

The report notes, "Scott chairs the National Republican Senatorial Committee, which relies on donors to help it elect candidates — and re-elect incumbents. The criticism highlighted how toxic the vote has become for the 19 Senate and 13 House Republicans who joined with Democrats to pass it," before adding, that Scott had to tell "his colleagues this week top party donors were 'furious' with the number of Republicans — including Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell — who voted for the bipartisan infrastructure bill."

According to Treene, Scott was giving an update on the latest polling when he delivered the bad news.

"He added that some donors had also been paying attention to Trump's statements, one of the sources said, which have included the former president calling the Republicans 'RINOs' who 'should be ashamed of themselves,'" the report states. "Scott's remarks landed a bit awkward, the second source told Axios, given many in the room not only voted for the infrastructure package but helped craft it."
