'A good sign': Ex-FBI agent expects Alex Jones verdict will start a flood of lawsuits against conspiracy theorists
Frank Figliuzzi, the former FBI Deputy Director for Counterterrorism, anticipates the lawsuit Alex Jones lost on Monday is just the beginning as Americans take action against conspiracy theorists who falsely claim that their slain loved ones were crisis actors.
Jones was sued by Sandy Hook parents after relentless attacks against them alleging that they were lying about losing their children in the Connecticut mass shooting that killed 20 children and six adults.
Addressing the lawsuit, Figliuzzi cited the lawsuits against conservative outlets like OAN, Newsmax and Fox by the electronic voting machine manufacturer Dominion Voting Systems and Smartmatic. He explained that he thinks this will help in the ongoing fight against misinformation.
"Expect more of this as a very effective tool against propaganda and specifically those who profit from propaganda," said Figliuzzi.
He went on to say that one of the main reasons Jones lost the lawsuit is that he refused to provide the information subpoenaed by the petitioners. So, the judge made it clear that he announced a win for the Sandy Hook parents because Jones refused to give over the data and finances being requested.
"Why do you think that is?" asked Figliuzzi. "Among other reasons, he profited from this vile propaganda that the Sandy Hook shooting never happened. So, we have seen this effective as a tool. The parents have won multiple lawsuits — some in Texas, where Alex Jones is based and now in Connecticut, where the parents are based. And we have seen it in similar issues where some are suing Fox News because of propaganda, lies, disinformation. We're going to see it."
Figliuzzi continued, saying that one thing he noticed is the extent to which people will go to protect their guns. The Jones lie was that Sandy Hook was a false flag and that former President Barack Obama would use the shooting to take away people's guns.
"He's lost," Figliuzzi continued. "This is a good thing. It's a good sign. Sandy Hook happened. I know people who lost their grandkids in Sandy Hook. I know cops who went into that school. It happened."
MSNBC host Nicolle Wallace read the take, noting that she was changing the words "Sandy Hook" with "election" and Jones with "Trump." She said it's exactly the same.
Figliuzzi said that Americans have got to fix their gullibility problem.
"They say there's a sucker born every minute and there are people willing to profit."
