MSNBC's Joe Scarborough damned President Donald Trump with faint praise for not making things worse while visiting victims of the Las Vegas mass shooting and their families.
The "Morning Joe" host said Trump showed restraint while acting as "comforter-in-chief" with grieving families and wounded victims, and didn't do any more harm with selfish or cruel behavior.
"The contrast was marked from how he was after Charlottesville, how he was certainly in Puerto Rico," Scarborough said. "He didn't embarrass himself, he wasn't self-consumed and he didn't rub salt in the wounds of people who were hurting."
The president's one-day performance was as aggravating as it was encouraging, Scarborough said.
"I suppose you could say (this) makes the tragedy of this presidency even greater that this man actually could, if he could restrain himself and behave like a normal human being and a normal president as he exhibited (Wednesday), that he was capable for at least one 24-hour period of doing that he wouldn't be causing the damage that he's causing," Scarborough said.
