MSNBC’s Morning Joe host lavished praise on Donald Trump for his actions in Iran Tuesday — and told his audience it was okay to slap the president on the back now and again.
Host Joe Scarborough’s comments came as his show is still feeling the effects from a trip to Mar-a-Lago he and his co-host and wife, Mika Brzezinski, made just after Trump won the 2024 election.
The hosts, who have been fierce critics of Trump, said they traveled to Trump's home to reopen lines of communication that would better serve their morning show viewers, though sources indicated the meeting was driven by fears of retribution from the incoming Trump administration.
The visit generated significant controversy and backlash from viewers and other media personalities.
Scarborough defended the meeting, saying the backlash showed a "disconnect" between social media and "the real world,” but the show saw plummeting viewership which still has not fully returned.
On Tuesday, he told his audience that Trump should be praised for the results of his bombing campaign in Iran.
“You've had Congress complaining about the president not coming to them enough or even getting approval for acts of war,” he said. “But I just sit there thinking, I feel like telling these Democratic leaders that two things can be true at the same time.
“Yes, the president should have given you more advance notice, but it's okay to say it's a good thing, that it could be a good thing that Iran's defenses have just been shattered over the past three months. It's a good thing that Hamas, Hezbollah, Islamic Jihad have been brought to their knees, that Iran's defense structure has been brought to its knees, the epicenter of terrorism since 1979.
“It's okay to say that, even if you don't like the president that got got them there.”
Trump dropped multiple bombs on an Iranian nuclear facility Saturday, and announced a ceasefire between Israel and Iran Monday night.
