Morning Joe’s Donny Deutsch goes off on Trump's anti-media attacks: Is this the ‘beginning of fascism'?

Donny Deutsch is not happy about the way that Donald Trump reportedly read the media the riot act in a series of meetings Monday.

On Tuesday's "Morning Joe," Deutsch said that the story gave him an uneasy feeling. "I am not going to say this is the beginning of fascism, and there is something concerning when the president-elect brings the media in the room and scolded them," he said.

Deutsch then went on to say that CNN was responsible for making Donald Trump who he was. Joe Scarborough disagreed, claiming that it was Trump who made Trump. They mocked the way in which Trump gets miffed at the media for using unflattering photos of him and laughed at his thin skin. Scarborough then went off about unflattering photos a newspaper in his old congressional district would use. "And I won the last election with 80 percent!" Scarborough was sure to clarify.

Returning to his point, Deutsch said that this is just another example of something the media is trying to normalize — and that it isn't normal.

"I was disturbed and concerned," Deutsch said. "Our president, as it was reported, chastised and yelling. 'And you can't cover me this way, cover me this way,' and that's not who we are."

Scarborough defended Trump, saying that he wasn't yelling and that the media deserved to get the lecture that they allegedly received.

"And he was giving hour speeches when he was 2 percent in the polls," Deutsch said. "Donald Trump created Donald Trump off the media and he played the media and continues to do it, and for us to sit here and say, meh."

Scarborough maintained that it was laughable to say that CNN made Trump and the media had nothing to do with it.

"CNN for the first nine months -- Donald Trump was getting hour-long speeches when he was 1 percent because he rated and he is a celebrity and they were in the business of that. He got elected because he was the best show on earth! And to sit here and say we should not be at all concerned with our president lashing out at the media?"

Scarborough said that Deutsch was setting up "false choices" and that the media lied about his chances of winning and thus deserved the tongue-lashing.
