'He knows he's toast': Trump's latest courtroom rant comes back to bite him
May 29, 2024
Former President Donald Trump's remark Wednesday that "Mother Teresa couldn't beat" the charges he faces in Manhattan criminal court has spurred a lot of questions.
The main theme of those questions ties to the specific charges brought by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, namely that Trump falsified business records to conceal hush money paid to adult film star Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 presidential election.
The questions also concern the late Albanian-Indian nun, a canonized Roman Catholic saint best known for the Nobel Peace prize she received for her work aiding the destitute of India.
"Did she pay off a porn star?" replied Ron Filipkowski.
"How did mother Teresa come into hush money," X user @goLoko77 wanted to know.

"The genius of Mother Teresa was that, during her life of service, she didn’t falsify business records and break campaign law to conceal having paid hush money to a porn star," replied James Withers. "Smart lady."
This analysis of course parallels the narrative prosecutors presented to the New York City jurors who have begun to deliberate charges against the former president.
For his part, Trump has pleaded not guilty, denied an affair with adult film star Stormy Daniels and argued he's the victim of a political witch hunt orchestrated by President Joe Biden ahead of the 2024 presidential election.

"Mother Teresa could not beat these charges," Trump told reporters outside his courtroom Wednesday. "These charges are rigged. The whole thing is rigged."
Viewers of this comment professed themselves unsurprised that Trump cast blame for the criminal charges against him away from himself.
"The thought of accountability has Trump nervous," replied X user Eric Rosen.
Added Denise Keegan Steeneck, "Oh, it’s a beautiful thing when he knows he’s toast."
