MS mayoral candidate touts hemp's powers to dissolve and repel nuclear radiation

A Mississippi mayoral candidate makes some startling claims about industrial hemp in a video outlining her platforms.

Gwendolyn Ward Osbourne Chapman is among 13 candidates running in a special election to replace the late Mayor Chokwe Lumumba, who died last month.

In a candidate video posted on WAPT-TV, Chapman said her motto was “move the change forward,” and she vowed to “build a strong economic foundation for the purpose of familyhood and unity.”

She told voters she was the best candidate for this “mayortorial” race because her “perfect” financial and economic plan.

“The United States spends over a trillion dollars a year on products made of industrial hemp,” said Chapman, who is wearing a T-shirt emblazoned with marijuana leaves.

In fact, the U.S. spends about $50 million on industrial hemp.

Chapman said Americans had a constitutional right to produce hemp, which she argued was “made of cotton, corn (and) petroleum,” among other components.

But hemp is most beneficial as a defense from the threat of nuclear attack, she said.

“The important thing about it is if there was to be a nuclear warfare, this plant would dissolve radiation, and repel it,” Chapman said.
