MSNBC conservative says Trump can’t possibly win wall showdown: ‘Democrats have no reason to negotiate’

President Donald Trump has boxed himself in with demands to fund his border wall, according to panelists on MSNBC's "Morning Joe."

The president forced a government shutdown in an attempt to pressure Democrats into funding the wall, but co-host Mika Brzezinski said the Republican Senate majority shows little interest in approving the bill.

"There is some reporting or some sense that we have that Republicans are really frustrated that they are in this position," she said. "They're trying to translate for the president and he keeps doubling down on his stupid wall that nobody wants."

Trump is hosting a bipartisan White House meeting in hopes of reaching a compromise, but Brzezinski warned Democrats not to trust the president.

"Listen to me, this man can't be trusted, this man has proven over the course of years that he cannot be trusted, that his word cannot be trusted, that he will say one thing and walk out of the meeting and completely say something else and run over you," she said. "That's what he will do. So what do you do when you're going into negotiate with someone who has been proven internationally, repetitively to be completely untrustworthy?"

Republican strategist Rick Tyler said Trump had left himself no room to negotiate a bill that even Republicans didn't appear to support.

"The Democrats have no reason to negotiate," Tyler said. "I mean, their opening position is, Nancy Pelosi says to the president, 'Mr. President, your campaign promise was that you would build a wall and Mexico was going to pay for it. Mexico is not paying for the wall, so you cannot fulfill that promise.'"

Republican voters support a wall, but two-thirds of all voters do not, and Tyler said Pelosi was coming back as House Speaker with a much stronger position than the president.

"Nancy Pelosi is going to control the agenda for the next two years, not Donald Trump," Tyler said.
