MSNBC's Mika Brzezinski shamed her counterparts on Fox News for downplaying and making excuses for family separations and child detention centers.
The "Morning Joe" host opened Wednesday's program with the words "tone deaf, callous and heartless."
"First tone deaf -- here we have the secretary of Homeland Security, Kirstjen Nielsen, choosing to eat at a Mexican restaurant last night, where she was promptly heckled by protesters," Brzezinski said. "Not sure why she thought that was the place to go after her presentation of lies and deceit about how children are treated at the border."
"Now to callous -- here's the president's former White House press secretary, Sean Spicer, sharing a picture of a champagne celebration last night at Trump Hotel in Washington," she continued. "How about heartless? Here's the president's former campaign manager, Corey Lewandoski, when hearing of a child with Down syndrome being separated from her parents."
Lewandowski mocked the child by saying "womp, womp" during an appearance on Fox News, and Brzezinski asked the conservative network's hosts for taking part in propaganda efforts to justify the policy.
"The pictures of this are staggering," she said. "The politics of this on Capitol Hill. but I don't think anybody reporting on this -- I don't know what's going on at Fox. But it's hard, I can't even, I couldn't even read the script, I was beginning to cry. I'm not sure how anybody can defend this without feeling a pit in their stomach."
