‘Mueller be damned’: MSNBC analyst says Trump is meeting Putin after the midterms to ‘thumb his nose’ at investigation

MSNBC's "Deadline: White House" on Tuesday attempted to explain why President Donald Trump would be meeting with Russian Federation President Vladimir Putin days after the midterm elections.

National Security Advisor John Bolton announced that Trump would meet with Putin on Sunday, November 11th -- less than a week after the November 6th midterm elections.

"This meeting here comes a couple days after the midterms when so much of Donald Trump's immediate political future will be determined," noted AP White House reporter Jonathan Lemire.

Peter Baker, the chief White House Correspondent for The New York Times, noted the ongoing investigation by special counsel Robert Mueller. Baker previously covered Putin as the Moscow bureau chief for The Washington Post.

"Robert Mueller just indicted the other day a Russian in connection with meddling in this midterm election -- not the election from two years ago but this midterm election -- so we know it's still going on," Baker noted. "To have this meeting immediately after that midterm is curious timing."

"I think, you know, sometimes the simplest explanation is the best one and I wouldn't be surprised if he simply sees this as a way to thumb his nose at Bob Mueller," noted Trump Nation biographer Tim O'Brien.

"That after everything that's gone on and all the criticism he's gotten about his connections or lack thereof to Russia, that he's going to just march over there and take a meeting, Mueller be damned," O'Brien continued.
