A former prosecutor who in the past worked under special counsel Robert Mueller predicted Saturday morning that his report on President Donald Trump must be a lot worse than the attorney general is letting on.
Glenn Kirschner, an MSNBC legal analyst who worked under Mueller when he led the US Attorney's homicide division, noted that this week's statements from members of the special counsel's team — that Attorney General William Barr's statement leaves a lot to be desired — are telling.
"There was a closed universe during the investigation," Kirschner told his co-panelists on Up with David Gura. "And those people were very loyal to Bob Mueller. Now that the special counsel's investigation is at an end, that universe is breaking apart. So it is not like they are going to be able to tightly control everything that was learned over the last 22 months about the president and his administration."
"I'm a little surprised," the prosecutor mused, "because once loyal to Bob Mueller, always loyal to Bob Mueller."
Kirschner added that he's not surprised that the officials came forward, however, but more at what they had to say.
"I'm less surprised that if these hard-working law enforcement agents and prosecutors are seeing this gross injustice by Bill Barr misrepresenting what they found over a 22-month investigation," he said. "It can't help but come out."
As Mueller's team is "breaking apart," Kirschner added, it's clear that they're "frustrated that things are being misrepresented."
"Truth is truth," he concluded, "and it needs to get out."
