Nancy Pelosi blames 'God, guns and gays' for Clinton's struggles with white bros

The demographic catchphrase repeated over and over during the 2004 election has resurfaced in an interview Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi gave to PBS's "News Hour" Wednesday.

“I think that, so many times, white — non-college-educated white males have voted Republican. They voted against their own economic interests because of guns, because of gays, and because of God, the three G’s, God being the woman’s right to choose,” Pelosi said, according to the New York Post.

Pelosi does believe that those factors are changing due to Clinton’s “economic agenda to create jobs, good-paying jobs, increasing paychecks.” Though, she senses that the hate from the group has softened some, certainly since 2004, when many states had anti-marriage equality ballot measures. Pelosi also cited "trickle-down economics" as something that people are wising up to when it comes to economic policy. "You know, it's about the economy. It's not a cliche, it's a fact."

“Some of those people were never going to be voting Democratic anyway," she continued. "But I believe that, with the turnout that we expect to have, we will draw some of them in with our message, and enough other people to win the election.”

When talking about Trump's viability in California, the San Francisco congresswoman cited Governor Jerry Brown, who believes Clinton can win the state by as much as 20 points.

"So, Donald Trump is, what? Is making things up when he says he's going to compete in California?" co-host Gwen Ifill asked.

"Let him think that," Pelosi said smiling.
