National Enquirer publisher was subpoenaed for investigation of Michael Cohen: WSJ

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that National Enquirer publisher David Pecker has been subpoenaed in the investigation into Michael Cohen and the use of hush money for alleged affairs with President Donald Trump.

Pecker confessed openly that he gave jobs and bought stories of accusers of Trump to shut them up while he was running for president. Investigators want records about a $150,000 payment from Aug. 2016 to a Playboy model for the rights to her story. They are seeking information about any possible efforts by Cohen to suppress damaging information about Trump during the campaign.

That now also includes any coordination and efforts by American Media Inc., who hired and paid Karen McDougal who said said she had an affair with Trump. They said that they would hire her to publish wellness pieces for the magazine, however, they never published anything.

“American Media Inc., has, and will continue to, comply with any and all requests that do not jeopardize or violate its protected sources or materials pursuant to our first amendment rights,” the company spokesperson said in a statement.
