The Trump administration is eyeing Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming as the site for its latest construction project, two insiders told The Washington Post, and onlookers were left furious.
According to the Post, the Trump administration is considering constructing a baseball stadium in Grand Teton National Park, one of the country’s most-visited national parks that sits in the Rocky Mountains in northwest Wyoming. Major League Baseball officials had already approached the Trump administration about hosting a baseball game at one of the United States’ 63 national parks, according to the Post.
Joyce Vance, a former U.S. attorney, bluntly wrote “no” in response to the Post’s report, and Rich Roman, a professional photographer, doubled down on Vance’s opposition to the potential project.
“I’ll add to that. F--- no,” Roman wrote in a social media post on X. “Leave Grand Teton, and all National Parks, alone!”
Christopher Moore, a New York Times bestselling author, wondered aloud how the Trump administration could even consider a national park as an appropriate site for a baseball stadium.
“Why the f--- would you build a baseball stadium where there are almost no people?” Moore asked. “This is deeply insane, and there's no fan base to support a team.”
Recent reporting has revealed that the Trump administration plans to enact “major” changes to the National Park Service, changes that advocates warn could spark “chaos” and “jeopardize park relationships with communities, stakeholders and partners.”
The Trump administration has also received scrutiny for diverting an “astounding” amount of tax dollars from national parks to fund President Donald Trump’s D.C. beautification projects, with more than $323 million earmarked for national parks being diverted as parks face a backlog of deferred maintenance projects estimated to cost as much as $30 billion.
