National security reporter stunned at how badly Mike Pence bombed in Europe

A national security reporter was shocked at how an audience in Europe responded to Vice President Mike Pence over the weekend.

In a speech at a security conference in Munich on Saturday, Pence appeared to pause and wait for applause after mentioning President Donald Trump. But he was met with silence.

NBC News national security reporter Courtney Kube, who was in Munich, said she had never seen anything like it.

"You could actually hear a pin drop in the room," she told MSNBC's Katy Tur. "One of the big takeaways from his speech was he really doubled down on his criticism of European leaders. He called on them once again to withdraw from the Iranian nuclear deal... he talked about the importance of NATO, the importance of allies."

"But what was really fascinating was he was bookmarked between German chancellor Angela Merkel and former vice president Joe Biden, both of whom talked about the importance of multilateralism and the importance of strong alliances. They received very strong reaction from crowd, both of them getting standing ovations," Kube said.
