The commissioner of the National Basketball Association said on Thursday that if North Carolina doesn’t overturn its anti-gay legislation, the 2017 All Star game will be moved out of the state, the Charlotte Observer reports.
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver made the comments at a press event on Thursday, criticizing the state's controversial HB2, and has called the law "problematic."
“We’ve been, I think, crystal clear a change in the law is necessary for us to play in the kind of environment that we think is appropriate for a celebratory NBA event," he said at an Associated Press Editors' event, according to the Observer.
He said during a radio show the NBA would prefer to work with local businesses and government to change the law rather than "putting a gun to their head," but said, “They know what’s at stake in terms of the All-Star Game."
