NBC Universal released a statement Monday apologizing for airing a campaign ad widely seen as racist.
“After further review we recognize the insensitive nature of the ad and have decided to cease airing it across our properties as soon as possible,” a NBC Universal spokesperson told Dylan Beyers, Senior Media Reporter at NBC News & MSNBC.
The advertisement—retweeted by President Donald Trump to his 55.6 million followers—shows a convicted murderer laughing about his crimes. The ad suggests that Democrats are letting murderers pour across the border.
CNN refused to run the ad, deeming it racist, but NBC chose to air it, the New York Times reported.
