North Carolina Democratic Party Chair Wayne Goodwin told MSNBC on Tuesday that the 'tainted' election in North Carolina's ninth congressional district was likely stolen by the Mark Harris campaign, and that his party was going to court to fight the results.
"So far there are affidavits that signify some very troubling irregularities, harvesting of ballots, unsealed ballots, unsigned ballots, ballots that were not turned in, people whose ballots were cast even they did not request absentee ballots," Goodwin said. "If allegations are proven true, then the state board of elections in North Carolina has the authority to call for a new election. But we need to find out what we don't know."
Goodwin said calling for new elections was but one of several options.
"The next option, of course, is for the House of Representatives to determine whether to seat Mr. Harris," he continued "But there should be no certification of this election until after a decision is made by the state board of elections."
"We're going to fight for the voters' voices to be heard. We're going to fight for the voters whose ballots were victimized," Goodwin added, saying the party was prepared to go to court. "We will do everything we can within the law to fight for the voices and for these votes that should have been counted and or have been tampered with. This appears to be a stolen election and we're going to fight for a fair process."
"It is certain that this election is tainted," he said. "The board of elections needs to hear from the witnesses and the investigators to show us and prove to us what their decision should be."
