Neighbors stunned after ‘old guy next door’ turns out to be Trump rioter who brought Molotov cocktails to DC

Lonnie Leroy Coffman, 70, faces a 17-count indictment, mostly for violating District of Columbia firearms laws, stemming from the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol. According to AL.com, one count references his alleged possession of 11 Molotov cocktails, saying that he broke a federal law prohibiting possession of unregistered destructive devices.

The search was conducted by FBI and Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms agents, along with officers with the Morgan County Sheriff's Office and Falkville Police Department, this Tuesday.

Neighbors speaking to AL.com say they were surprised by the revelations.

"I was surprised and flabbergasted when I heard that he was a suspect in the rioting," Grady Riddle, who lived across the street from Coffman for about six months. "I'd usually see him working on his truck near the street because he kept his driveway blocked. We'd wave to each other when I went to work in the morning. I considered him just the old guy next door."

Neighbor Lauren Holt said she was "startled" when she recognized Coffman's house on the news.

"I didn't know who he was," she said. "I saw him out in the yard, but I was surprised" when he was accused of a connection to the rioting in D.C.

Among the items recovered at Coffman's residence in addition to ammunition and firearms was a crossbow with bolts, several machetes, camouflage smoke devices, 11 mason jars containing a flammable liquid, with a hole punched in the top of each jar, and Lighters and rags.
