Neil Young rips Donald Trump: You can't use my song -- I'm a Bernie Sanders fan

As Donald Trump announced his candidacy for the Republican presidential nomination on Tuesday, critics quickly noticed his peculiar use of a Neil Young protest song -- and so did Young himself.

Mother Jones reported that the Canadian singer was not consulted prior to Trump's event, according to a statement from manager Elliot Roberts.

"Donald Trump's use of 'Rockin' in the Free World' was not authorized," Roberts said. "Mr. Young is a longtime supporter of Bernie Sanders."

The 1989 single mocked a favorite saying of George H.W. Bush following Bush's election a year earlier, as Young remarked, "We got a thousand points of light, for the homeless man. We got a kinder, gentler, machine gun hand."

Sanders, the independent senator from Vermont campaigning for the Democratic Party's nomination, has not responded to Young's statement of support.

The video for the song, as posted online, can be seen below.
