Nervous White House aides fear Trump will give Kim major concessions -- then try to spin it as a symbolic victory: CNN contributor

New York City Council's first female and first openly gay speaker, and CNN political contributor, Christine Quinn said on Tuesday that North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un was clearly in control of this week's summit with the United States -- and White House aides are worried that President Donald Trump will once again trade concessions for nothing.

Host Stephanie Ruhle described the first summit as a "grin and grip" that resulted in empty promises from the North Korean leader, and asked Quinn what there was left to talk about.

"That reality that nothing really has happened, really goes to what you were saying. It puts Kim Jong-un in the driver's seat here," she said. "The president's aides are very nervous that the president will act too quickly, that he's going to get into the room and give all kinds of concessions to come out with some symbolic win."

"What's the point?" she asked rhetorically. "The point is to give Donald Trump another press opportunity to try to salvage a foreign policy win here when really all he got out of the first one was something he attempted to manipulate and spin into an important international event, when it really wasn't. It was almost embarrassing to the United States."
