DeSantis' super PAC lays off swath of workers despite his vow not to quit race

Never Back Down told a swath of employees Wednesday morning they were no longer needed, a new report shows.

The super PAC backing Ron DeSantis, the Republican Florida governor whose presidential campaign never quite took off, offboarded employees even as their candidate promised he will continue on with his effort to be the presidential nominee, the New York Times reports.

Among those employees appears to be George Andrews, whose LinkedIn profile shows he was a precinct operations director with the super PAC in Iowa until about 6 a.m. Wednesday.

“I learned I am now a free agent due to budget cuts beyond my control,” Andrew wrote in a post. “I completely understand why this had to happen, harbor no ill will, and wish my former team great success as they attempt to bring back sanity to our party.”

One official who spoke off the record to the New York Times said those laid off would be paid through the end of the month.

Chief Executive Scott Wagner told the Times in a statement that DeSantis’ campaign was charging ahead in New Hampshire and South Carolina.

“We’ve mobilized several members of our robust Iowa team over to the other early primary states to help in these efforts and will continue working to help elect Gov. DeSantis,” Wagner reportedly said, “the most effective conservative leader in the race, our next President.”
