New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo easily beats Cynthia Nixon in Democratic primary

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo cruised to an easy win over actress Cynthia Nixon in the state's Democratic primary, USA Today reports.

The Associated Press called the race 30 minutes after polls closed in the Empire State, with Cuomo far in the lead.

The race featured higher turnout than some others, such as the shocking Democratic primary where Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez scored an upset.

"We've been seeing in elections not a lot of people turning out, and that is just bad for democracy," Cuomo said.

"It only works if you come out and you participate."
