New York prosecutors want records from Trump's inauguration committee in financial probe: report

Prosecutors in the Southern District of New York have asked Donald Trump's inaugural committee for records in its ongoing investigation into the president's finances, ABC News reported Monday afternoon.

Sources with direct knowledge of the prosecutors' request told ABC the inaugural committee's lawyers were "asked if they could accept a subpoena for documents from federal prosecutors," the report noted.

Axios reported in November that people close to Trump's team revealed that they are far more worried about the SDNY investigation into the president's finances than they are special counsel Robert Mueller's Russia probe.

Last year, reports revealed that former Trump "fixer" Michael Cohen and former Trump Organization CFO Allen Weisselberg both cooperated with the SDNY — and could have revealed damning information about the president's finances.

After ABC News broke the initial story, the New York Times reported that the Trump inaugural committee was ordered to present documents on its "donors, finances and activities," per two sources with knowledge of the situation.

"A lawyer working with the inaugural committee received a subpoena on Monday evening seeking documents related to all of the committee’s donors and event attendees; any benefits handed out, including tickets and photo opportunities with the president; federal disclosure filings; vendors; contracts; and more, one of the people said," the report added.
