Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is facing backlash for panning President Joe Biden's State of the Union speech as partisan and fracturing.
"Last night we learned we have a Democratic in Chief rather than a Commander in Chief and a Democratic National Chairman rather than a President of the United States. It was the most destructive, hateful and divisive state of the union in our history," reads Gingrich's tweet. "Read Truman’s 1948 speech for a patriotic, unifying, presidential speech as a contrast."
"Biden never ceases to amaze with his pettiness, nastiness and dishonesty."

Gingrich, who ran for president had gained infamy when he spearheaded the impeachment effort against President Bill Clinton over the Monica Lewinsky affair and infamously shut down the federal government in the 1990s, was hit with very personal slights after posting the tweet.
"How’s your sick wife in the hospital doing again," asked @carolki.
The personal attack revisits an incident where Gingrich, who walked down the aisle three times, launched into divorce proceedings while his first wife Jackie Battley at the time was recovering from cancer surgery.
Tom Santarsiero called out Gingrich for putting his foot in his mouth, posting "Says the father, along with Rupert Murdoch, et al, of the partisan division we suffer from today. There’s a dustbin in a university history department beckoning."
"What a giant hypocrite you are, wrote John A. Fetto. "For those that don't know Newt, Newt was and is one of the most divisive republicans out there. He led the attack on Bill Clinton for his affair in the white house while conducting his own affair."
Indeed, Gingrich has admitted he cheated on his second wife, Marianne Ginther while he was pushing the impeachment proceedings against Clinton.
@love2laugh4ever also took a shot at the Republican, posting, "I think you’re looking in the mirror."
Others blamed Gingrich for the contradictions.
"It is the likes of you who are divisive and lie like a rug in a barn," tweeted @BaddCompani. "You do not speak for Americans, you lie to them. Nothing you said is truthful, nothing you do is honest, nothing you say matters. It is pure agitprop."
Journalist John Harwood said Gingrich's attempt was "shameless."
