President Donald Trump is coming to the end of the political road, MS NOW's Nicolle Wallace said on Wednesday's edition of "Deadline: White House" — and even his GOP allies are starting to catch wind.
"Republicans on the ballot and off are tripping over themselves right now in a seemingly frantic effort to get as far away from Donald Trump and his toxic political brand and economy as they possibly can," said Wallace.
It's showing up everywhere, she continued, from Florida gubernatorial candidate Byron Donalds deleting mentions of Trump from his website, to multiple GOP candidates calling for the Iran war to end, to Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) wanting to investigate Donald Trump Jr.
"According toPunchbowl, any one of thesemight have commanded ourairwaves and headlines when itwas actually dangerous orpolitically touchy to breakwith Donald Trump. But now it'sso easy," said Wallace. "He's literally at 29 percent," driven by frustration over the war and high gas prices.
Faced with all of this, said Wallace, Trump is turning to his "vanity" projects. "Monuments in his name as he holds the Kennedy Center hostage for refusing to put his name on it" — and he even now reportedly could put his name on Ford's Theatre, where President Abraham Lincoln was assassinated.
"Instead of everything turning to gold other than the knickknacks that he paced around the Oval Office, he's turning everything into Trump," said Wallace. "Make no mistake, this is a political tragedy, at least for him. These are the actions of a weak person in defeat and retreat, not a strong one in victory."
