'Nightmare': Former Trump official promotes op-ed that trashes the president

David Lapan, who served as the spokesman for the Department of Homeland Security under President Donald Trump, promoted an editorial on Friday that ripped Trump for undermining America's international alliances.

In a Friday morning tweet, Lapan quoted a section of the op-ed, written by law professors Joshua Geltzer and Ryan Goodman, that took Trump to task for harming American interests with his foreign policy.

"Mr. Trump has weakened NATO, given Russia an increasingly free hand in Syria, minimized sanctions against Russian actors, questioned America’s commitment to protecting Eastern Europe from Russian aggression and defended Mr. Putin on the world stage," the quoted excerpt states.

This is not the first time that Lapan, who was a close ally of former White House chief of staff John Kelly, has bashed the president since leaving the White House in 2017.

Earlier this year, for example, Lapan angrily responded to a Trump tweet in which the president boasted about the great work he'd done for veterans even though he'd just shut down the federal government to get his border wall.

"It’s time to retire the line about the military after your shutdown forced Coast Guardsmen and women to work without pay for 35 days,” Lapan wrote in response to Trump’s tweet. “And now you’re taking billions of [dollars] away from the military for a border wall (that Congress is already funding).”

And last year, Lapan slammed Trump for using military service members as “political pawns” after the president ordered them to go to the U.S.-Mexico border to deal with the caravan of migrants that was trying to seek entry into the United States.
