Fox News host Shepard Smith on Monday threw cold water on President Donald Trump's suggestion that "rogue killers" murdered journalist Jamal Khashoggi, who was last seen entering a Saudi Arabia consulate in Turkey.
In remarks on Monday morning, Trump deflected the suspicion away from the Saudi kingdom. According to the president, King Salman's "denial was very, very strong."
“It sounded to me like maybe these could have been rogue killers," Trump added. "Who knows?”
But during an afternoon broadcast on Fox News, Smith revealed that the network was unable to validate the president's remarks.
"The president did not elaborate on why he said 'rogue killers,'" Smith noted. "Fox News knows of no intelligence and no evidence to back up that statement."
"And nobody besides the president has made that assertion to our knowledge," the Fox News host observed.
