Oakland mother shot to death in suspected road rage incident

A California mother of four was shot to death on her way home from grocery shopping Sunday in a suspected road rage incident.

Perla Avina was riding with her husband, Mando Lopez, about 12:30 p.m. in East Oakland when another driver opened fire after “some type of confrontation,” reported KNTV-TV.

A passerby said he tried to perform life-saving maneuvers on the woman.

"I didn't see any signs of life," said Dwayne Jackson, who lives nearby. "There was no waking up."

Police found Avina, who was riding in the passenger seat, suffering from at least one gunshot wound, but the 30-year-old mother was pronounced dead at the scene, reported KTVU-TV.

Oakland police are offering a $30,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the shooter.

Police have offered few details about what might have led to the shooting.

Avina’s children, the youngest of whom is 18 months old, were not riding in the car at the time.
