In light of last night's narrowly avoided government shutdown, President Barack Obama is evidently feeling proud of the deal he struck. He's showing it by taking a victory lap around D.C.
According to the press pooler assigned to the president today, Obama spent about 10 minutes this afternoon at the Lincoln Memorial, which would have been closed if there had been a shutdown.
“I just wanted to say, real quick, that because Congress was able to settle its differences, that's why this place is open today and everybody’s able to enjoy their visit," the president said, according to the pool report. "And that's the kind of future cooperation I hope we have going forward. Because this is what America is all about: Everybody from different places enjoying those things that bind us together. It is wonderful to spend time with you guys, I hope you have a great time.”
Obama didn't answer press questions about specifics of the budget deal.
