Occupy protesters tased at Santorum event

Things got a little rowdy during Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum's visit to Tacoma, Washington on Monday, where reports said that authorities used a taser on least one Occupy Wall Street protester.

Santorum tried to make a point by linking the demonstrators to President Barack Obama, but his speech was often drowned out by the noisy crowd, according to Seattle Post-Intelligencer.

"They're fundamentally trying to remake our country into a country that our Founders wouldn't recognize," the candidate complained, as protesters chanted "We are the 99 percent!"

KIRO-TV reported that one or more protesters were eventually tased and even more were arrested.

"I think it’s really important for you to understand what this radical element represents, because what they represent is true intolerance," Santorum said of the Occupy Tacoma protesters, who have an encampment right next to the museum where he was speaking.

He added that they should "go out and get a job" instead of "standing here unemployed, yelling at somebody."

Santorum, who has been surging from behind in the polls in recent months, met with about 100 pastors and so-called “values voters” in Olympia, promising them he would work to overturn Washington's newly-passed same sex marriage law.

One woman, apparently disgusted with Santorum's opposition to marriage equality, threw glitter on the Pennsylvania Republican during the event in Tacoma.
