Ohio Republican judge leaves GOP after 41 years over disgust with the party under Trump

A longtime Republican judge in Ohio has declared that she is switching her party affiliation to Democrat, the Columbus Dispatchreported Friday.

“I’ve been a registered Republican since I was 18, and 41 years later I do not recognize the Republican Party as it is today,” Common Pleas Judge Julie M. Lynch told the newspaper on Friday. “And I’m not the same person I was when I was 18," she added.

And Lynch may not be the only judge thinking about making the switch, says the paper, who quoted a local Democratic chairman.

"County Democratic Party Chairman Michael Sexton said he has heard rumors that other Republican judges are considering changing their affiliation," the Dispatch wrote.

“Judge Lynch is an example of women voters in Franklin County who are frustrated with and are abandoning the Republican party,” the paper quoted Sexton as saying.

“It was clear to me that she is upset about the direction of the party led by President Trump,” Sexton said.
