Ohio school caught using a video made by an Islamic sex cult to teach creationism to kids

Young Americans are still learning about creationism in schools despite the fact that it has no basis in scientific reality. The Daily Beast notices that the curriculum map used by the Youngstown, Ohio school district recommends that teachers show students a video called "Cambrian Fossils and the Creation of Species" that purports to completely disprove the theory of evolution.

The video peddles misinformation about the so-called Cambrian Explosion, a time period where the number of species on Earth rapidly increased over the span of 550 million years.

More intriguing, however, is the revelation about just who produced this piece of creationist propaganda. It turns out the video is "based on the works of Harun Yahya," who is an Islamic televangelist and leader of a bizarre Islamic sex cult.

"Harun Yahya... is a pseudonym for Adnan Oktar, a creationist cult leader and Islamic televangelist who owns Turkey’s A9 TV channel," The Daily Beast writes. "On Oktar’s A9 channel, a group of women in tight-fitting designer clothes and dyed blonde hair help him promote Islam and attack evolution, all the while calling him 'master.' Oktar refers to the women as his 'kittens,' and as Slate reports, he 'offers [his kittens’] beauty as evidence of Islamic creationism.'"

While that in itself is disturbing, it turns out the Yahya is also a Holocaust denier who has written a book titled The Holocaust Deception: The Hidden Story of Nazi-Zionist Collaboration and the Inner Story of the Hoax of “Jewish Holocaust.”

Youngstown school officials did not respond to questions asking them to justify using this video in classrooms, although it wouldn't be surprising if they quietly removed it from the curriculum after learning of its origins.
