One killed and three wounded in residence hall shooting at Northern Arizona University

An overnight shooting at Northern Arizona University left one person dead and three others wounded.

The shooter, 18-year-old Steven Jones, has been taken into police custody.

"Situation is stabilized," the university said in a Twitter, post, adding that the Flagstaff campus had been placed on lockdown.

The shooter opened fire early Friday morning outside Mountain View Hall, which houses most of the university's fraternity and sorority members.

Police said the gunman opened fire during a fight between two student groups.

The Arizona Board of Regents prohibits students from carrying guns on campus but allows them to keep weapons in their cars.

President Barack Obama will visit Roseburg, Oregon, on Friday to meet with family members who lost loved ones last week during a gun massacre at a community college where nine people were killed.
