Online communities unite to mourn 13-year-old who committed suicide over anti-gay bullying

On Tuesday, 13-year-old Tyrone Unsworth committed suicide in Brisbane, Australia after years of merciless antigay bullying by classmates. Rights groups around the world are mourning the teen online and raising money for a funeral fund started by the boy's mother and grandmother.

News.com.au said his mother Amanda pins the blame for her son's death squarely on the bullies who tormented him in school.

"Tyrone ended up being gay and a lot of people started picking on him," said Amanda Unsworth Thursday night. "He was a really feminine male, he loved fashion, he loved make-up and the boys always picked on him, calling him gay-boy, faggot, fairy; it was a constant thing from Year 5."

"I feel like these people who were bullying Tyrone are the cause of why he is not here any more. They pushed him to the edge," she said.

Weeks ago, Tyrone was attacked by another boy and struck in the face with a piece of fencing. His injuries required hospitalization and surgery. Since then, he was too frightened to go to school.

"Amanda revealed her little boy had such big ambitions for life, with a dream to be a vet and save animals or a fashion designer," said News.com.au.

Around the world, Mashable.com reported, LGBT groups and anti-bullying organizations are mourning the loss of Tyrone. Australian rights groups are calling for fresh attention to the issue of bullying in schools.
