Oregon Democrat calls out GOP lawmakers for repeatedly quoting Hitler and Mussolini

Republican lawmakers have recently quoted fascist dictators Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini -- and Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR) has heard enough.

Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL) quoted Hitler's "Mein Kampf" at length Monday during a House speech Monday attacking Democrats with the anti-Semitic "big lie" slur, reported the Washington Post.

“A ‘big lie’ is a political propaganda technique made famous by Germany’s national socialist German workers’ party, but more on that later," Brooks said. “For more than two years, socialist Democrats and their fake news media allies — CNN, MSNBC, the New York Times, Washington Post and countless others — have perpetrated the biggest political lie, con, scam and fraud in American history."

Brooks repeatedly accused Democrats and journalists of pushing a "big lie" about Russia collusion, and then quoted Hitler's book, which portrayed Jews as inherently dishonest and treasonous.

“In that vein, I quote from another socialist who mastered big-lie propaganda to a maximum and deadly effect," Brooks said. "Quote: ‘In the big lie, there is always a certain force of credibility because the broad masses of a nation are always more easily corrupted in the deeper strata of their emotional nature than consciously or voluntarily.'"

Last month, Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) quoted Fascist Party founder Mussolini in an attempt to slur Democrats as authoritarian.

"'We were the first to assert that the more complicated the forms assumed by civilization, the more restricted the freedom of the individual must become.' Benito Mussolini," Cornyn tweeted.

He was quickly met with backlash, and Cornyn later complained Twitter users weren't smart enough to understand his point.

“You nailed it, Bud. Since so-called Democratic Socialists have forgotten or never learned the lessons of history, and how their ideology is incompatible with freedom, I guess we have to remind or teach them,” Cornyn said. "Did I over estimate the intelligence of some in the twitter sphere?"

Wyden, whose Jewish parents fled Nazi Germany, shamed Brooks and Cornyn for using fascist propaganda to attack Democrats.
