Oregon militant Ryan Bundy placed under higher security after 'threatening' cops

Ryan Bundy, one of the leaders of the militant group that seized a federal facility in Oregon, was placed under higher security after an altercation with guards at the Multnomah County Detention Center, the Oregonian reported.

A spokesperson for the jail said Bundy refused to let local sheriff's deputies handcuff him in preparation for a transfer from the jail. Bundy was slated to be taken to an undisclosed location by federal marshals at the time of the incident.

According to Capt. Steve Alexander, Bundy argued with a sergeant trying to handcuff him, then "spun around," prompting the deputy to take him to the ground. Oregon Public Broadcasting reported that Bundy was evaluated by medical staffers and found to be uninjured before being delivered to marshals.

Bundy was then taken out of general housing at the jail for "threatening" or "assaultive" behavior and placed in disciplinary housing, which will allow him to spend less time out of his cell. He could lose further privileges depending on the outcome of an administrative hearing in three days.

Bundy and his brother Ammon, who spearheaded the 41-day occupation of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, are slated to go to trial on Sept. 7.
